The Norfolk Barbell Club runs five times a week within CrossFit Gain and is a fully accredited British Weightlifting affiliate.


What is Olympic weightlifting?

Olympic weightlifting (or weightlifting) is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic programme in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates. The two competition lifts in order are the snatch and the clean and jerk, with three attempts at each. Weightlifting has enjoyed a massive growth in popularity due to its inclusion in the CrossFit methodology. CrossFit programming regularly includes both the snatch and the clean and jerk.

What is powerlifting?

Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves lifting weights in three attempts. Powerlifting also features in CrossFit programming, but mainly to build overall strength as opposed to a competitive workout.

The Norfolk Barbell Club offers group and individual coaching for Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting.

On Wednesday mornings, Friday evenings, and Saturdays, programming includes dedicated Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting work to improve your skill set within those sports and build your strength for CrossFit. If you’re focused solely on lifting, these are the classes to attend.

On late Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings, the club hosts Barbell Intensity classes- barbell-focused workouts focused on raising your heart rate and improving barbell cycling for the sport of CrossFit. You can benefit from the same level of accredited coaching and get some conditioning in to boot.
